Step 4: It’s Not What’s in the Store, It’s What’s in your Kitchen

So here we are already at Step #4!!! This is one of my favorite steps because when I figured this out and mastered it, all was right in my world. LOL. But seriously being able to make healthy meals at the drop of a finger is such a great feeling! Knowing that I always have quality ingredients for each meal of the day and the tools necessary to execute the recipes ensures that I can keep my family and myself eating nutritiously and deliciously!

Mama Kat and I have listed separately our favorite kitchen equipment that have helped us to maintain healthy living and we have combined our pantry/fridge staples list.

Mama Kris’ Favorites

The kitchen equipment that was absolutely monumental and instrumental in keeping me going everyday and helping me stay on track was my Vitamix 5200. Around the time I decided to start eating organic, I happened to walk into Wegmans where there was a Vitamix demo going on. I swear it was the Healthy Gods who sent me there at that moment to see this! The demonstrator literally made me about 9 different items in 12 minutes!! It was soooo expensive though! A whopping $440! I called the hubby to see if he would justify this purchase and he said if I thought I would use it everyday then go for it. I still was unsure so I decided to post a question on Facebook to see what others thought about it. Within two minutes it was nothing but rave reviews! I was now the proud owner of a Vitamix! Since that day back in March of last year I literally use it every single day and have even brought it on vacation!! From smoothies to shakes to juices, ice creams and soups, it’s so super simple to create the most awesome things out of completely whole, fresh foods!! I’ve also made my own almond butter straight from nothing but raw nuts as well as fresh baby food for my niece! The machine is small enough to sit on the counter and I can tell you, if you have equipment that’s out of site, it’s out of mind! I previously had a juicer in a box on a shelf in my pantry that I never ever used. The Vitamix is so functional–it replaces a blender, juicer and food processor. There’s no pulp to have to clean as it pulverizes everything which is awesome because the rind of many fruits have tremendous nutritional value but that’s lost with a traditional juicer! I’ve grated cheese and chopped vegetables for my sauce, kale and quinoa patties–you name it, I’ve done it! And clean up is a breeze! In less than 30 seconds it’s clean and back on the base!! Can’t rave enough about this one!

Mama Kats’ Favorite Tools

Stovetop grill– I bought a reversible grill/griddle that I use to grill vegetables, steak, chicken, fish, etc. without having to walk out in this freezing weather we’ve been having in the North East.

Nutribullet 900– I recently bought this and LOVEEEEE it! It is perfect for a quick healthy smoothie. It comes with multiple cups so you can create different smoothies within minutes. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that you can create so much more than smoothies 🙂

Digital thermometer– I bought a digital meat thermometer at William Somoma and I LOVE it but it was a whopping $99. To me it was worth every penny but then I found something similar on Amazon for a lot less…. Bummer! You insert the end of the meat thermometer into your beef, pork or poultry and it will give you a digital temperature to ensure you are eating at the right temp…you know so this way you avoid things like salmonella OUCH

The Mama’s Mutually Loved Tools:

Aquazinger water infuser– this is a favorite by both Mamas. If you are someone who does not enjoy drinking water due to its tasteless flavor, then the aquazinger is a great buy. You can add fruit, herbs and seasonings to your water without having to pick the pieces out of your mouth.

Misto Oil Sprayer Another favorite by both Mamas. It is a much healthier choice than using Pam or any other canned oil sprays which contain chemical propellants and preservatives. The Misto allows you to add any oil you like to use within the canister.

If you would like to purchase our favorite KITCHEN TOOLS we have added them and then some to our Amazon store.
