July-National Blueberry Month

Blueberries, that tiny, round, dark purple, sweet little treat that we enjoy for breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. We know you may be wondering how or why we would serve blueberries at dinner but we add them to our applesauce for the kids and they just love it! It’s a great side!! Another dinner item Mama Kris recently tried was blueberry butter. She just took a stick of organic butter, softened, added a cup of blueberries and smashed them together. Once smoothy combined, she put the butter in the center of plastic wrap, rolled it up in a log shape and placed it back in the fridge for an hour to set! It was a great spread for her dinner rolls served alongside her grilled pork chops! Try it!!!

Blueberries are so much more than just cute, flavorful and fun! They are “jam” packed with amazing nutritional benefits such as memory improvement, anti-inflammatory capabilities, healthy blood pressure, anti-cancer, retina protection and many, many more.

We love adding blueberries to our breakfast bowls whether it be yogurt, granola, oatmeal or cereal. We love blueberries in our smoothies such as our Berry Good Start smoothie and they are perfect for kids to pick up with their tiny fingers as a snack or have them make their own little smoothie just like Mama Kris’kids.

Now in the hot summer months there’s nothing more refreshing than ice cold water and what makes it even better is infusing it with fresh fruit!!! You know these mamas love their infused water!! There’s several ways to do it! If you own an Aquazinger like us or any other water infuser bottle you can simply add the blueberries into the infuser area and muddle a bit to release the juices and then add your water, shake and cool! If you don’t have an infuser, you should get one, lol, but in the meantime, drink a little of the water from your favorite bottled water so it’s not too full and then pop those blueberries right it!!! Blueberries are one of the few fruits you can add directly into bottled water since they’re the perfect size! You can even give them a little squeeze before putting them in!!

Finally one of our favorites and right in time for the 4th of July!!! Fruity ice cubes!!! Add blueberries and for Independence Day, throw in some sliced strawberries right into your ice cube trays, add your water and freeze! Once frozen either add to an individual drink or to a nice big transparent pitcher of water. This is a great idea if you’re entertaining! The fruit will look so pretty floating in their pool of water and the refreshing fruit flavor can’t be beat on a day like today!!!

We hope you all have a beautiful July!!! Please send us your blueberry ideas, recipes and photos for us to share throughout the month!!

Happy Blueberry Month everyone!
